NOTD Ozotic Nail Polish #530 – Elytra

When I first received the Ozotic Nail Polish in #530 – Elytra 15mL RRP$14.95. I first thought that it was a cute mix of red gold and pink coloured glitter in one polish when I was looking at the glitter in the bottle.

But when I applied it I found that it is actually one type of glitter that reflects a different colour depending on which angle you look at it that ranges from gold to orange to red then to purple. An effect that is very hard to capture on camera as you can see on my nails in the image below it just looks like pieces of dark colour dots on my nails.

• ·         Index finger: one thin coat
• ·         Middle finder: two thin coats
• ·         Wedding finger: three thin coats
• ·         Pinky finger: two thicker coats

Closer look at my nail beds and how much glitter is dispensed per coat. From top to bottom, one coat, two coats, three coats, two heavier coats.

Tip I found that when consider longevity I found that two thicker coats lasted longer than three thinner coats.

Here is the low down on the polish:

Pros:

• ·         Free from toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), formaldehyde and camphor.
• ·         Easy to apply
• ·         Super fast drying time.
• ·         Not bad longevity if you don’t pick at it (see comment below)

Cons

• ·         I found that it did peel a bit but the longevity wasn’t too bad, after half a week or a bit more it would still look pretty good if you were not temped to peel it off if you saw a lifted corner.

Polished London Nail Polish - London Eye

Today I am wearing my Polished London Nail Enamel in London Eye which is a nice and strong orange colour that is not too bright though it is bold.
Here are what they look like on my nails, the left picture is with only one coat of colour whilst picture on the right side is done with three coats of colour;

Pros

• DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde free
• Great solid colour after 2-3 coats
• Good staying power and lasts about three-five days before chips appear (but wear and tear does start to show after a couple days)
• Does not peel
• Good drying time

Cons

• You need a bit of practice applying it so that it did not look streaky or gluggy.

Revlon Top Speed Nail Enamel

Today I thought that I would put on the Revlon Top Speed Nail Enamel on my nails. The colour that I have is Poppy 420 which I was given to trial by BeautyHeaven a few months ago.

Here is the low down on this Nail Enamel:

Pros

• Great drying time.
• One coat gave me great coverage two gave me a more solid colour (see index finger in the photo above) but one is enough.
• The shimmer finish and the level of pigmentation means that it was easy to make a streak free finish.

Cons

• In just over a day wear and tear around the edges of the nail are clearly visible, but since the drying time is so fast you can easily give your nails another coat.
• My brush was dodgy, it had a couple of bristles that were not cut down to the same lenght as the others, first I cut them down but it was still getting in the way so I had to cut them as short as possible later. That's isn't really a con but rather a manufacturing mistake.

Max Factor Nailfinity - My All Time Favourite nail polish

Yesterday whilst looking in my nail polish draw I saw one of my old nail polishes hiding at the back of the draw that I have now had for at least 6 years and that is the Max Factor Nailfinity Shimmer Finish in 133 Extra Frost.

It has been a while since I last wore it and the nail polish that was remaining was getting a little thick. Therefore before I put it on my nails I thinned the consistency of what was left by adding a couple of mLs of a very liquidy clear nail polish that I had on hand. And here it is on my nails:

The reasons why I love this nail polish is because:

• The colour is pretty with its shimmery frost finish
• It is long lasting and lasts at least 5 days before chips or wear and tear occur
• It doesn't matter if I use one or two coats the colour comes out beautifully
• With semi transparent nail polishes or shimmer ones you don't need to worry about streaks since they are practically invisible
• If you get any chips they are hard to spot since the colour is so translucent and you can see your natural nail underneath

The downsides,

• My bottle is getting old and I haven't got much left :(

Goodbye 2011! With a Review of the Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Nail Polish

Hi all, with 2011 coming to an end I decided that I would like to start a blog where I can easy rant long and hard about anything that may come to mind, whether that be related to beauty products or techniques or anything other that I like that is 'girly' :) and since I am new at this I am happy for all the suggestions/comments and encouragement that may come my way!

Today I am going to start off with a review of a product that I got a few weeks ago and it is the Sally Hansen Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Colour in the colour 43 aka Ruby Sequin (see image below) which is packaged in a cute curvy bottle that fits nicely in my hand and has a very pretty diamante above the label on the front which is a very pretty touch that suits the name of this product very well.

Firstly I must say that though this nail polish comes in a beautiful bright pink colour that could be described as hot pink or lolly pink but I would not call it Ruby Sequin as that brings to mind a red coloured nail polish not pink. Also before I go on I will mention have not used a base coat or a top coat with this product my review is based on just this product being used on its own.

I have now used this Diamond Strength nail polish a couple of times and I am now getting used to the brush and the polish itself and with my experience with it I would say that the consistency of the polish is a little runny compared to what I am used too therefore making it quite hard to make a even and not too heavy coat but is something that I have overcome with a couple of application. Whether you use one two or three thin coats the colour produced is quite nice but a solid colour that is seen on the bottle of this product is not achieved until you have reached your third coat.

Now that I am used to this product and its consistency I would say that the brush could be improved, at the moment it does serve its purpose of providing even coverage but it is a bit too stiff and multiple strokes are needed to cover the nail evenly.

The main downside I would say about this product is the drying time. It is not user friendly in this category and I would advise that you go to loo before you do your nails just in case :) the polish is slow drying and you should give yourself at least 20-30 minutes before you do anything that requires too much hand use and even then I found that if anything touched my nail even a couple hours after application dints and imprints would be left on my nail that I needed to hide with another coat, sadly since I was not thinking I was going to blog about this today I did not take any pictures of the bad ones but the image below is an example of a dint that appeared within hours of application without me doing any ‘hand physical’ demanding activities.

Also because of this slow drying you should wait at least half an hour between coats and make sure you are quick with the next coat and don’t use too many brush strokes or else you may drag the lower coats along as it can dissolve when more polish is applied and brushed into the lower coat.

 

The finish is lovely and shiny therefore a top coat is not required to help this polish look its best.

The best thing about this polish is how long it lasts once it is dry and that ages, at least a week, possibly longer with good care and not too much harsh work, wear and tear of course is visible but not any chips or peeling.
