Review: Maybelline New York Volum’ Express One by One Satin Black Mascara

Here I have got the limited edition Maybelline New York Volum’ Express One by One Satin Black Mascara. This mascara has been released to coincide with Maybelline’s partnership with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2012. And with a RRP $19.25 for 9.6mL, it is also quite affordable.

Features:

  • Bright Pink tube with a very raunchy corset pattern
  • Thick sturdy handle
  • 300 bristles to catch each and every lash
  • One coat creates great length but is suitable for daytime use
  • Two or more coats create a false lash effect
  • Made in Italy

Likes:

    • Does not clump
    • Defines my lashes
    • It is so easy to coat my bottom lashes with this (I usually get mascara on my skin when I attempt to coat my bottom lashes)
    • Effortless, takes no time at all to apply

    Dislikes:

    • If my eyes start to water I have noticed that this mascara stings my eyes a little
    • Does not stay put all day, I have noticed a bit of smudging under my eyes by 5pm on a number of occasions since my first use
As with all mascara's one need to use this product a couple of times to get used to the brush and to accomplish the look they are wanting. Below is a image of my eye without any eye makeup on and the next image is the same eye with the application of the Maybelline New York Volum’ Express One by One Satin Black Mascara.

Though I have always been a huge fan of Maybelline Mascara's I would have to say that this is a mascara that I would not purchase again. The main reason is because I didn't like the stinging feeling the mascara gave me when my eyes watered, which is something that I have never experienced before and which I find a little concerning. Second because I am not a fan of experiencing panda eyes in the middle of the day, I have other non-waterproof mascaras that do not smudge like this one.
The lash effect created with the mascara was good since it lengthened my lashes and was easy to use but it does not compensate for the two reasons why I would not purchase this one again.

Eye colour palettes, the good and the bad

I must admit that when I first entered the would of makeup I wasn't too sure what I was doing and my mum wasn't much help either with tips, looks or techniques. Therefore I basically I learned all of that from the web.

But what I didn't learn from the web was how to apply multiple different colors eyeshadows to help define and or brighten a look and I was stuck with just did the monotone look, wether it was a monotone taupe or pastel green.

All that changed when I got my hand on my first Maybelline Expertwear Eyeshadow in Mocha Motion.

Not only did the pack have contain four colours which complemented each other but it also came with instructions on how to apply these colours to your eyelid to create either a well defined, classical or subtle look and I have never looked back...
Maybelline Expert Wear Eye Shadow in Crown Jewels, Mocha Motion and Seashore Frosts
Maybelline Hyper Diamonds in Bronze Diamonds,Covergirl Eye Enhancers in Berries and Cream and Covergirl Exact Eyelights in Vivid Greens.
Here are a couple of things that I like and dislike about eye colour palettes:

    Likes

    • Great for the beginner
    • Colours in each palette fit together perfectly
    • Professionally finished look each time

    Dislikes

    • Many packs have the same amount of each colour but if you need to use more of one colour than another, you will soon be left with a half finished pack
    • Some packs are not very pigmented

Have you ever bought any eye colour palettes which were made for specifically for a couple of looks?

Foundation Swatches for Light Skin Shades

    Hi ladies!

There are so many different shades and tones when it comes to choosing foundations and we all know how hard it is to find the right shade.
Here I have swatched some of the open bottles of foundations and concealers which I have right now so that those ladies who may have one of the following foundations may compare what they have to some other products if they are looking to move on or who are just curious about what the tone of .
Here is the list of products I have swatched and their corresponding places in the images below:

    Foundations:

    1. Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector in Light
    2. Covergirl Clean Makeup in 105 Ivory
    3. Bourjois Collagen Foundation in 61 Abricote Clair
    4. Max Factor Xperience Weightless Foundation in 40 Light Ivory

    Concealers:

    5. Bourjois Imperfection Concealer in 11 Beige Ivoire
    6. Maybelline Age Rewind Double Face Perfector in Light
    7. Bourjois Brush Concealer in 61 Beige Clair

    In normal everyday light indoors

    In natural light

    In artificial light

The Products used above, names and shades listed from 1-7

P.S. Swatches do not always give a total accurate comparison between the colors ie I find that the Max Factor product no. 4 to be much lighter than the Covergirl product no.2 but in the images above the colour difference is not so great and I also find that the Covergirl foundation is darker than Bourjois when applied and blended into my face.

Review: Maybelline Hyper Diamonds Eye Colour Palette

Maybelline Hyper Diamonds in Bronze Diamonds
Today I thought I might give a review of the Maybelline Hyper Diamonds Eye Colour Palette which I have in Bronze Diamonds.

This product promises to give you a glittery diamond like effect with the soft, silky and blendable formulation of this eyeshadow.

This eyeshadow range comes in 5 pretty looking palette's, the choices includes Charcoal Diamonds, Bronze Diamonds, Berry Diamonds, Sapphire Diamonds and Emerald Diamonds. So therefore there should be a colour combination for all styles!

As a huge fan of Maybelline products I was very happy when I got this product as a win from Beauty Heaven.

Here is the look I created with this pallet and following the instructions on the back:
Maybelline Hyper Diamonds in Bronze Diamonds

    Likes:
    • Pigmentation of the darker colours are intense.
    • Smooth, silky application
    • Applicator guide helps out beginners who has not used multiple eyeshadow shades before.
    • Lasts all day if you use a primer (or else the colours slip around the eyelid and the look becomes blotchy)
    • It comes with a sponge applicator which has a 'fat' and a 'tapered' end, I use the 'fatter' end for the lighter shades and the tapered end is perfect for the intense colours
    • You can use this product for every day occasions though it may be considered too shimmery for some.
    Dislikes:
    • The shimmer glitter top coat as quite a bit of fall out which can be really annoying.
    • Hard to access the applicator guide as it is behind a sticky panel on the back, therefore you need to memorise it then get to work.
    • Though this is not a fault nor does it affect the quality of the product I was quite disappointed to see the word 'made in china' on the back. When I see Maybelline I expect to see 'made in USA' on the back, for two reasons:
      • 1: because that is what I have always seen on the back ever since I can remember. The exceptions are the last three products I have aquired from their range which are (baby lips, master precise eyeliner and this hyper diamonds eyeshadow)
      • 2: because it is sad to see that America and her people have been struggling financially and to see another American brand sourcing the manufacturing of their products overseas and denying their own people jobs

    Have you got/used this pallett?
    Do you like it?

Review Maybelline NY Master Precise Liquid Liner

    Hi all!
As mentioned not too long ago I got a lovely gift from BH that included a Maybelline NY Master Precise Liquid Liner which I am going to do a quick post about today.

    Maybelline Master Precise Eyeliner
As someone who is quite inexperienced with liquid liner I found this product really easy to apply and I soon able to draw black line right next to my lash line which was neat, smooth and thin enough for my liking.
    Without eyeliner
With eyeliner across top lash line

Here are a couple of other looks that I achieved with this liquid liner:

     Pros
    • Easy to apply to the eyelid area (but not the outer edge of the eye area)
    • Does not fade to blue
    • Stays put all day and has vibrant colour
    • Has a thin tip of 0.05mm
    • Waterproof
    • Smudge proof
    Cons
    • The tip of the pen is a felt tip and I did not find it easy to draw a design on the outer skin of my eye area as I found that the tip pulled at my skin which sometimes created a blotchy line
    • It is only avaliable in black (not really a con but more colours would be useful for some)

    Do you use liquid liner?
What is your favourite liquid liner?

    My Australia Day Eye Makeup

Well whilst preparing for Australia Day I thought I would do something special with my eyes and so I went to the Beauty Heaven Forums for some inspiration in the thread called Can We Do It??? Yes We Can!!! And I decided to try out one of the looks from page 86.

This look itself was easy to create with just a black eyeliner on the top lid and a blue eyeliner across the bottom lid. I used; Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner in Onyx and Marcelle Kohl Eyeliner in Noble Purple (though it doesn't look purple to me!).

    My Australia Day eye look!
    What do you think?

How have you done your makeup for Australia Day?
